United Nations Peace Keeping Operations Contingent Commander Course (UNPKOCC) commences

On 30th Aug 2017, Chief of Staff (COS), Nepalese Army, Lieutenant General Purna Chandra Thapa addressed the closing ceremony of Shree Siddibox Battalion which is going to be deployed as Force Reserve Battalion, NepBatt IV (UNMISS, South Sudan) in near future. The Chief of staff, after reading the Rt.Hon. President’s message to the deploying troops then addressed the troops too about the complexity of the Mission and expressed the expectation of Nepalese Army regarding their duties and responsibilities in their Mission during the closing ceremony. He then observed the demonstration on protection of civilian (POC) and VVIP security conducted by the Shree SiddiBox Bn. Prior to the closing ceremony on 27th August, Mission commander briefed the Director of Directorate of Peace Keeping Operation of Nepalese Army, Brig Gen Damodar Thapa about the challenges the unit would face & how they would overcome it in the mission area. Before that, on 26th Aug 2017, the Commandant of BPOTC exchanged mementos with the battalion & spoke to them about the complexcites of UNMISS environmet and how to accomplish the task given to the deploying troops.

"There is no question that as UN peacekeeping continues to evolve, so will the training needs of UN peacekeepers. Hence, peacekeeping training should have a systematic approach in order to develop training standards, policies, guidance and best practices for the trainers. Only the outcome of such training can help to meet the mission requirements."
